There are moments in this journey when learning and living intersect in a way that feels less like coincidence and more like calling. For me, this season—stretching from Salt Lake City to our upcoming research in Bristol—is one of those moments.

At first glance, these may seem like two very different experiences. One, a global conference filled with innovation, technology, and forward-thinking ideas. The other, a historic city grounded in records, archives, and ancestral paths. But in truth, they are deeply connected.

This is not just travel.
This is movement with meaning.

Why This Journey Matters

What I experienced at RootsTech 2026 was not simply information—it was transformation.

Sessions on artificial intelligence, DNA analysis, and historical reconstruction challenged me to think differently about genealogy. Not as a static study of the past, but as an active, evolving discipline—one that requires both precision and imagination.

Now, as we prepare to step into Bristol, I carry those lessons forward.

This is where learning becomes doing.

Learning vs. Doing

It is one thing to understand new tools and techniques.
It is another to apply them in real time—standing in the very places where records were created, and lives were lived.

Bristol represents that transition.

It is where theory meets practice…
and where research becomes personal.

From Lessons to Experiences

What began as insight in a conference setting is now becoming a lived experience.

The archives.
The streets.
The churches.

These are no longer abstract references. They are part of the story we are actively stepping into—places where names on paper once had breath, movement, and meaning.

Today by Way of the Past

Our present journey is shaped by decisions made centuries ago.

Every document.
Every parish entry.
Every migration.

They do more than tell us where our ancestors were—they reveal how we came to be.

Techniques and Timing

There is a rhythm to this work.

Knowing when to research…
when to pause…
and when to pivot…

…is just as important as knowing where to look.

This journey is teaching me that timing, patience, and discernment are as critical as any tool or database.

From Research to Storytelling

Ultimately, this journey is not just about collecting records.

It is about transforming those records into stories—stories that honor lives, illuminate truth, and connect generations.

Because facts alone inform…
but stories bring understanding.

What This Means for You

As I reflect on this path, I’m mindful that this journey is not mine alone.

Many of you are on your own path of discovery—through genealogy, travel, or personal growth.

Here’s what I hope you take from this:

Apply What You Learn
Knowledge reaches its full value when it is put into practice. I’ll be sharing how these new tools and insights are shaping both my research and storytelling.

Travel with Purpose
Every trip doesn’t have to be about rest alone. Sometimes, it can be about connection—to history, to identity, and to something greater than ourselves.

Explore New Avenues Thoughtfully
Not every opportunity is the right one. Part of this journey has been discerning where to invest time and energy for the greatest impact.

Prepare for What’s Ahead
Bristol is not just a destination—it’s the next chapter. And what we uncover there will shape the stories we tell moving forward.

A Look Ahead

In the coming weeks, I’ll begin sharing insights directly from Bristol—what we find, what we confirm, and what new questions emerge.

Some discoveries will bring clarity.
Others may deepen the mystery.

But all of it moves the story forward.

Because in the end, this work is about more than records.

It’s about remembering.
It’s about reconnecting.
And it’s about walking—with intention—the path that brought us here.
